4 interior design trends for 2025

Ethno

The Ethno interior trend is centred around elements that reflect the traditional craftsmanship and culture of different people. This style evokes a warm sense of connection between different cultures. The interior tells a story, created by mixing a variety of materials and beautiful ethnic elements. The colour palette features warm reds and oranges, combined with beige and khaki. We also see an abundance of natural materials and ethnic prints. Furniture is predominantly made of wood, with organic shapes or a more robust design, often paired with kilims and cowhide rugs. There is also a noticeable use of coarse outdoor fabrics, designed to create a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Walls are finished with wallpaper made from natural materials like bamboo and leather, or treated with tadelakt or clay plaster.

New Classic

The New Classic interior trend gives a modern twist to the traditional, somewhat rustic, style. It’s time for something new. For example, the familiar herringbone pattern is replaced by a Hungarian point, elbow, or block pattern. Base colours like beige, black, and brown are complemented with warm green, soft blue, or ochre. Materials such as marble, slate, wool, and linen are used to complete the look. The key focus is the contrast between old and new. For instance, a vintage chest of drawers gets a more contemporary look by pairing it with sleek, modern furniture in fresh colours or enhanced with bold black accents. In short, a fresh breeze is blowing through the traditionally safe classic interior!

Vintage & Eclectic

Vintage & Eclectic is a playful interior style, where nothing has to match perfectly. By following your instincts, an unexpected unity is created. The aim is to create a warm, cosy cocoon. This is achieved with a colour palette of warm tones like burgundy, olive green, and ochre yellow, combined with rich materials such as brass, marble, and velvet. Bold patterns are used in wall coverings, fabrics, and tiles. The walls are painted in rich colours, and to complete that cosy cocoon effect, even the ceiling is included.

Clean & Soft

Where Vintage & Eclectic is a maximalist interior style, Clean & Soft is a minimalist one. Elements of this interior trend are not unfamiliar in the world of interiors. This style is heavily influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian design, with a neutral colour palette primarily made up of beige and white, combined with soft pastel tones. The trend favours organic shapes, natural materials, light woods, and the occasional blossom branch. Functionality plays a significant role in this minimalist style, so a clear out of unnecessary accessories is essential.

The orchid: the perfect addition to your kitchen

Looking for a way to decorate your kitchen? Consider orchids! While we often place them in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, and hallway, we don’t usually think of them for the kitchen. It’s quite surprising, really, because they can bring a lot of atmosphere there too! Especially if you love cooking, you likely spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Additionally, many homes nowadays have open-plan kitchens, making them a space where guests often gather. So, it’s time to style the kitchen with orchids!

The orchid: the perfect addition to your kitchen

First and foremost, make sure there is enough daylight in the kitchen before placing orchids there. These plants don’t like direct sunlight but do need ample daylight. This is essential for successfully styling your kitchen with orchids.

Does your kitchen meet these requirements? Then it’s time to start styling! Start by deciding whether you want bold or neutral colours. Should the orchids provide a pop of colour, or should they blend seamlessly with the rest of the interior? You can also consider different types and sizes of orchids.

A coffee corner with orchids

Orchids also do well in the coffee corner. It’s especially fun to style this area in coffee tones, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Think of browns mixed with white, beige, and black—from espresso to latte macchiato! And the best part: orchids come in all these colours. You can also add accessories in brown tones, from lovely wall decorations to an abstract artwork in warm mocha shades. A cosy coffee corner enhances your interior and is a space to be proud of.

Brighten up your hallway with orchids

One of the greatest advantages of decorating with orchids is the variety of types and colours. Whether you opt for a classic white Phalaenopsis, a stylish Cambria or another exotic species like Vanda: there’s always an orchid that suits your style.

An easy way to integrate orchids into your hallway is by placing them on a sideboard. Choose a stylish plant pot that complements the decor of the rest of the house, and place one or more orchids on it. This instantly brightens up the space!

Nooit meer een saaie hal met orchideeën

If you don’t have much space in the hallway, consider placing a small side table or plant stand with an orchid. Adding a mirror here makes the space appear larger, brighter, and gives the illusion of more plants. A win-win situation!

Is your hallway too narrow to place anything? Work vertically and hang several orchids with plant hangers! By hanging the plants at different heights, the wall appears more playful and taller, which is perfect for creating a spacious feeling in a narrow hallway.

Boost your wellbeing with a cosy plant corner

Just like our phones, we also need moments to recharge. A moment of relaxation, free from distractions around us. A great way to do this is by creating a cozy plant corner in your home. This has multiple benefits, from improving air quality indoors to reducing stress. Curious about such a plant corner? In this article, you’ll find a few tips to create one!

Boost your wellbeing with a cosy plant corner

The idea of a plant corner is simple: it’s a specially reserved space in the house where you can place a collection of plants. This can range from a small corner on a windowsill to an entire room dedicated to greenery. Whatever you choose, the intention is to create a calm, inviting environment where you can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.

How to create a plant corner

Start by choosing several different types of plants. Consider their size (the bigger, the better!) and mix and match with different leaf shapes. Don’t hold back; you can really have a lot of plants to make sure you’re surrounded by greenery. You can even create a room divider from indoor trees, allowing you to sit secluded from the rest of the space.

Also, ensure there’s a comfortable chair or sofa where you can relax. Then all you need is a book and a cup of tea, and your moment to recharge is here!

DIY Terrarium with mini orchid

It’s very easy to make on your own, yet it looks spectacular. And with the colourful hues, you’ll surely get a bit of spring fever! Read on to find out what you need and how to get started.

DIY Terrarium with mini orchid

Necessities

To create a terrarium with a mini orchid, you’ll need the following:

  • Large glass jar
  • Hydrogranules
  • Bark potting soil
  • Mini orchid
  • Other small green plants of your choice
  • Moss

Instructions

Got everything you need? Then let’s get started! Start with a layer of hydrogranules at the bottom of the glass jar. This ensures proper water management. The granules absorb moisture and release it gradually, allowing the plants to receive the right amount of water over an extended period. On top of this, add a layer of bark potting soil. This type of soil is specifically developed for orchids and is much lighter than regular potting soil. Next, it’s time to plant the mini orchid and green plants. Place the mini orchid in the centre as the focal point, with the green plants surrounding it. Finally, distribute some moss over the soil.

Trend: Curved Lines

The Curved Lines trend revolves around round shapes. Think of the round and oval dining tables that we saw a lot of in 2023. In 2024, we’re taking it a step further with even more organic shapes. Imagine a table with a top in various winding forms that seamlessly flow into the legs. Or a curved sofa, a rug in shapes other than straight lines, or start small with a plant pot in organic forms, housing an orchid in a natural hue.

Trend: Soft Seventies

The Soft Seventies trend takes us back to the Seventies, a vibrant decade where fabrics and patterns were all about going wild. In 2024, we leave behind the busy prints and instead embrace velvet fabrics, vertical wooden slats, large and comfortable furniture pieces, and funky shapes that add a twist to your interior. The colour palette consists of greens like olive, shades of purple, and caramel. A colour combination that you can easily bring into your home with orchids!

Dulux Colour of the Year 2024

The name of the Dulux Colour of the Year 2024 gives it away: Sweet Embrace is a sweet and warm colour. Inspired by the softness of feathers and the subtlety of evening clouds. Around the Colour of the Year, palettes have been created with colours that are easy to apply and reflect various trends. The colour palettes represent three trends: the quest for belonging, the quest for tranquillity, and the quest for joy.

An uplifting colour story

Mixing ethereal and dreamy tones of ochre and soft lilac, this palette has a contemporary, uplifting mood. Its mix of shades provides great opportunities for dynamic colour combinations that can enliven a scheme and bring energy and positivity.

A warm colour story

Warm, natural shades of sand, soil and terracotta – this family of global earth tones can help create spaces that feel familiar and embracing. These colours are ideal for layering to create a warm, comforting backdrop, and they work particularly well in living rooms or places where people want to come together, connect with family and friends and feel relaxed.
