5 care tips for your orchid in autumn
Autumn asks something slightly different of your orchid than summer does. Shorter days, lower temperatures and the heating coming back on: your plant notices all of it. Fortunately, there are only a few things to watch out for to keep your orchid looking beautiful in autumn too. These five tips will get you through the season.
5 care tips for your orchid in autumn
1. Bring your orchid indoors
Has your orchid spent the summer on the balcony or patio? Then autumn is the time to bring it back inside. Orchids do not like falling temperatures, and certainly not night frost.

2. Choose a brighter spot
The days are getting shorter and the sun sits lower, so your orchid can move closer to the window. That way it gets enough daylight. In this period you usually no longer need to worry about harsh midday sun.
3. Water less often
In autumn, watering twice a month is often enough. Not sure? Look at the roots: if they are grey, your orchid needs water. If they are a lush green, it is doing just fine.
4. Feed your plant
Orchids appreciate a little orchid fertiliser in their water. It promotes healthy roots, beautiful glossy leaves and a strong plant.

5. Keep an eye on humidity
Dry air from the heating is not pleasant for your orchid. Regularly mist a little water into the air around the plant, or place a bowl of water nearby. That keeps the humidity at the right level.
