The butterfly orchid (Phalaenopsis) is the best-known variety, but there are so many more. Another bonus: orchids are easy to care for. It’s relatively simple to keep your orchid healthy and looking beautiful, so you can enjoy it for a long time. The most important thing is to place your orchid somewhere with plenty of daylight, but away from direct sunlight. You only need to water it once a week by placing the plant in water for around 5 – 10 minutes. Let it drain thoroughly, and it’s ready to go back to its spot.

With a little bit of extra care, virtually all orchids will flower multiple times in a year. It is important that the orchid does get daylight, but no direct sunlight. You then simply need to give it a little water once a week. The flowering period is usually more than two months. If you add special orchid food to the water every month, you will see the plant flower more abundantly and for longer.

A Vanda naturally grows without potting soil and wants water more often, while a Phalaenopsis does perfectly well with a weekly dunk.
